Values
Participation, Accountability, Safety, Inclusion, Sustainability.
Founded in 2001, SHIPO advances community-driven development in Tanzania’s Southern Highlands with a focus on safe water, sanitation, climate resilience, and local enterprise.
To contribute to a sustained improvement in the living standards of people in Tanzania by empowering communities to lead their own development—through participation, resource mobilization, and multi-stakeholder cooperation.
Mission language adapted from SHIPO profiles and partners.
Since 2001, SHIPO has collaborated with local government, civil society, and international partners to deliver practical, affordable solutions. We pioneered appropriate technologies like the SHIPO Tube Recharge method that improves groundwater availability and cost-effective well drilling, and we created the SMART Centre to train entrepreneurs who supply WASH and agricultural products locally.
